TAW the art workshop is my place where I guide children in art. As Picasso said "Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain one when you grow up." It is an absolute pleasure to be with kids in my art studio. We inspire each other. I believe art is best done by children. Uninhibited, natural and such honest works!
Art should be an integral part of education everywhere. This may seem like a no-brainer, but the arts allow kids to express themselves better than maths or science. There's no doubt that the arts are fun for kids. Diving into those finger paints and making a beautiful picture to hang on the fridge is awesome. Creating a painting that represents a memory or expressing feelings through colours - if children have practice thinking creatively, it will come naturally to them now and in their future career.
The arts enhance the process of learning. The systems they nourish, which include our integrated sensory, attentional, cognitive, emotional and motor capacities are in fact, the driving forces behind all other learning. The fine arts also provide learners with non-academic benefits such as promoting self-esteem, motivation, aesthetic awareness, cultural exposure, creativity, improved emotional expression, as well as social harmony and appreciation of diversity.
I, therefore, want to promote my vision of a wholesome education where left brain and right brain thinking are balanced. Art can make a difference!
Also in TAW, we have our Paint Your Dream show at the end of every short-term course where children exhibit their art in public places and also conduct an open studio where they become guides for people coming in. This has become a very popular event in Pune. Hopefully, we will be expanding to other cities as well!
