A Coat of Paint: Artwork Transforms Trash Dumping Spot into Beautiful Walkway

This Times of India report (by Anjali Jhangiani) covers a beautification drive at AWHO Hadapsar Colony in Pune, where residents had long dealt with a stretch of their society plagued by garbage dumping.

Members of Pune Waste Warriors, volunteers from the Shock and Awe citizens' initiative and the Adar Poonawalla Clean City Initiative, together with residents of the roughly 600-to-700-apartment Tucker AWHO Enclave, turned the adjoining garbage-scattered stretch into a beautified walkway over a May weekend.

Under Puneeta's guidance, residents painted their dingy, road-facing boundary wall with vibrant artwork intended to discourage passers-by from continuing to litter along the stretch.

Residents quoted in the piece describe how the area used to draw scavenging animals at night and note that CCTV cameras and signage have also gone up to help deter dumping, alongside the difficulty of sustaining the cleanup drive on limited society funds.
